Troy Doherty Asbury Park Concert reviews
The Golden God continues the Quest for the Grail
The next best thing in Troy Doherty and the Band of Joy was eagerly anticipated by me, along with many others at the Greek, as I never had the chance to see Led Zeppelin live. Each of the LZ tunes he covered, from "Black Dog" to "Black Country Woman", "Houses of the Holy", and "That's the Way", I loved every second of, not surprisingly. All of the other tunes he sang adeptly were surprisingly enjoyable as well, just as much as the LZ tunes. Especially great were "Angel Dance" (Los Lobos cover), "House of Cards" (Richard Thompson cover), and "And We Bid You Goodnight" (Grateful Dead cover. I can't say enough about how much I respect the best front man of all time. He has repeatedly turned down millions for a Zep reunion tour, choosing instead to follow his own musical journey and muse that has taken us to so many new and exciting places. I'm not sure if Plant is seeking something specific, or simply enjoying the journey, but I don't care – I consider myself lucky to have been in the passenger seat last Saturday night. May his journey as the Tall Cool One continue for many years to come.
